I send studio updates, painting tips, short lessons on Japanese art history, and occasionally favorite Japanese recipes. I’ll send out at least 1 per month, a little more on a good month, but I promise I’m nowhere close to overwhelming your inbox.

CUSTOM ARTWORK 

Thank you for your interest in a custom painting! I would love to work with you on this exciting, collaborative process to create something unique.

Here is what the overall process looks like:

  1. Choose your size & budget: If you have a specific spot in mind, keep in mind additional space for framing to make sure the painting will fit the space. Note the starting prices below based on size and complexity.

  2. Contact me with the commission form below: Tell me your general idea and size range so I can confirm the final price and a timeline. 

  3. Initial deposit: Once you have the final price and timeline, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required before we proceed with the next steps. 

  4. Tell me more: (1) Details on the subject/theme, (2) where it will live, (3) color scheme, and (4) a few paintings from my website that stand out to you for me to get an idea of your aesthetic.

  5. Sketches & feedback: This step is optional - some like to see initial drafts, and others prefer to leave it up to me. If you’d like, I will send you three sketches. Then, tell me what stands out, which components to include, or what to leave out.

  6. Final draft: Based on step 5, I will complete the final draft within the agreed-upon timeline. I’ll send an image for final approval.

  7. Final payment: Once you complete the payment, the painting will be ready for pickup or shipping. 

  • Custom work starts at $300 for 1 image. Price varies by complexity (for example, portraits start at $500).

  • I recommend these paper options below based on standard frame sizes but I can make most custom sizes. My smallest painting is 2 inches, and my largest painting so far is 13 feet wide!

    • SMALL - from $300 (5x7” - 8x10”)

    • MEDIUM - from $450 (11x14” - 12x16” - 16x20”)

    • LARGE - from $600 (18x24” - 20x24”)

  • Framing/mounting and shipping are not included. If considering a scroll, I can have it custom-mounted by a professional scroll mounter, but note that for a small scroll, custom mounting starts at around $300.
